Program Costs

The Tuition and estimated Fees for this academic year, 2024-2025, are given in the table below. Tuition and Fees for AY 2025-2026 are expected to be similar and will be posted in early 2025. Please be aware that MQST is a self-supporting degree program and has a different fee structure than other academic graduate programs at UCLA. Please refer to the Registrar's Office for more information about self-supporting degree program fees.

The advertised MQST Tuition is based on the typical required course load of 40 units as described on the Program Overview page, and this tuition is assessed on a per unit basis. Please note that this is the same for all students, both resident and nonresident, domestic or international, and is as listed here. The listed Tuition and NRST for other Graduate programs is not charged for self-supporting graduate degree programs.

Students who enroll in the typical 12-unit course load in each of the three academic quarters will be assessed $15,300 in tuition for those quarters. The remaining $5100 in program tuition is assessed for the required summer course QNT SCI 596/597 - Capstone Project. Should a student enroll in more than 12 units in a given academic quarter, they will be assessed additional tuition at the per unit rate of $1,275.00/unit. Students may enroll in additional courses beyond the core and one required elective, and will be charged additional tuition at the per unit rate.

Health insurance is a mandatory assessment for all registered UCLA students. All students are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP), but may waive enrollment if they already have health insurance. We have therefore provided the total MQST program cost both without health insurance and including UCSHIP. Further information about health insurance can be found on the UCLA Student Health website.

The total cost described below does not include living expenses. Students are expected to procure their own housing. UCLA maintains the following site to help graduate students find and secure housing: UCLA Graduate Housing website.
